IGNITE YOUR FUTURE AT ANNUAL CAREER FAIR!
AREA STUDENTS & PUBLIC INVITED TO ATTEND
Ask a group of kindergarten students what they want to be when they grow up, and you will probably hear, “a fire fighter,” “an actress,” or “an astronaut.” But as students approach high school, they may no longer know what they want for a career, and even if they do have an idea, often they don’t know how to get there. That’s where the Boise Career Fair Invitational is helpful, because it is a great way for students to be exposed to many businesses, organizations and professions while learning more about their options when planning for their future.
The 16th Annual Career Fair Invitational took place at Taco Bell Arena at BSU, Tuesday, April 8, 2008. This year’s Career Fair theme was Strike a Career Match to Ignite Your Future! There was close to 400 speakers, and approximately 100 business exhibitors ranging from professions such as computer technology to law.
Students selected four careers that they were interested in, and listened to speakers on two of their choices. In addition, students had the opportunity to attend a third seminar that focuses on higher education choices within Idaho. They also were able to interact with representatives from local businesses and learn about job opportunities, and what qualifications are necessary for that career.
“Meeting with professionals educates students about how to prepare for a certain career and what it entails. Many students have no idea of the time commitment and education required for their chosen field,” said Chair Linda Peterman , Boise Career Fair. For the general public, two general seminars took place that evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Great door prizes were given away at the evening session!
This event is organized and sponsored by Boise School District, Boise Education Foundation, BSU-Selland College of Technology, Idaho Chamber of Commerce, Idaho Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admission Officers, and Micron. The cost is free to those who attend, and is $175 for an exhibitor table.
“Not only is the Career Fair a dynamic education opportunity for students, it is inexpensive publicity for businesses,” said Peterman. “Approximately 5,000 people attend the Career Fair each year.”
