Leadership Boise Academy
Since 1984 the Leadership Boise Academy (LBA) program,
modeled after the adult Leadership Boise program, has encouraged
area high school juniors to engage in exploring their community
through direct interaction with community, civic, corporate,
and political leaders during five, daylong sessions from
January to May. Each month the focus of the session is on
a separate industry – media, business, healthcare,
and legal/social. A community project and graduation ceremony
is scheduled for May. This is a scholarship program supported
by local businesses. Students attend the program, free of
charge, from monies raised by the Chamber.
The LBA program is looking for applicants who:
· demonstrate the potential to grow as leaders
· show a sincere interest in wanting to learn about
their community
· have a desire to engage in community activities
· exemplify high standards in academics
· exhibit responsible and dependable behaviors
· communicate ideas, feelings, and points of view
effectively in a group setting
· balance extracurricular activities successfully
· display leadership characteristics
The diverse topic of each of the sessions, which are planned
by the adult Leadership Boise class, provide students with
a comprehensive overview as they begin to explore their
career opportunities. In February, the Business session
combines the adult Leadership Boise class and students,
allowing students to mix with business leaders from a variety
of industries. The LBA program also provides a unique setting
for interaction with 50 to 55 students from large and small
schools around the valley.
Each of the larger schools, Eagle High, is responsible
for selecting four to five students at the junior level,
with two alternates in case students drop out. EHS often
gets 5 students selected as well as our two alternates.
The student applications are due the first week of November
every year. The Career Counselor will have the applications
by mid October. If you are interested, please see your Career
Counselor.
